The nature reserve in Bjurkärr have many visitors. It is to be found on a peninsula in the middle of the lake Åsnen, and most of it is covered with beech woods. The oldest trees are about 250 years old. In the beech wood there are about 100 so called "Karolinerekar". These are, according to the legend, oaks that the king Karl XII´s soldiers brought home and planted during the 18:th century.

 During the winter Bjurkärr offers great possibilities to study sea eagles and other bird of preys. Sometimes even golden eagles can be seen. The amount of resting common mergansers usually culminates between november and december. Experience this fantastic sight from Bjurkärrs nature reserve, when the fish are driven in to more shallow water, where they become an easy prey for the common mergansers. As many as 20.000 common mergansers have been fishing at the same time in lake Åsnen.


The forest have many high stumps.
