Land of Legens - Blod Moutain
The Blanda - legend is the most widely known legend of all Smålandish
legends. It is about how Blanda and other Smålandish women cunningly and
courageously defested the Danish invaders. After the fighting they camped by
the lake Åsnen. in the bay, they washed the blood off them, and the bay is
called Blodviken, the Blood bay, to this day. The moutain is called
Blodberget, the Blood Moutain. Another explanation for the name Blood
Moutain is that there was a holy grove by the moutain. Here, animals were
sacrificed to the heathen Gods. inside the moutain there is supposed to have
been a hall with an altar. The king of the trolls "Puke", had
ruled here. The name "Puke" stemes from the devil itself. The
Blanda - legend had been regarded as historically authentic for a long time.
Yet, it was made up by the mill - and factory owner of Huseby, Petter
Rudebeck (1660 - 1710), in order to glorify Smålandi`s past.

The dead resting here on "Blodberget" were burnt before they were
interred. The dead man/women was placed on the pyre in his/her festive
attire; well equipped with food and domestic animals for the other world.
Remains from the pyre were then covered by a mound. However, it was only the
wealthier free men and women who received such impressive pyres. "Blodbergetserved
as a burial - graund during the later Iron Age, between 1500 and 1000 years
ago. both these graves, as well as name of the next village, Odensjö,
remind us of the pre - Christian time in the district, when Oden was the
first among the Aesir gods.

The big cairn on the southern
part of the grave - field may been built as early as 3000 years ago. All the
other graves are from the later Iron Age. Most of the graves are mounds.
There is also a trident. As the name indicates the shape of the trident is
triangular, seen from above. The three corners are extended to long, thin
points. A stone stands in the middle f the trident. Just nesrby the
precipice in the southern part of the grave - field a stone can be seen,
more than 2 m long. originally it stood upright and marked a grave. A legend
from the area says that when the stone has slipped down to the water below,
the earth will come to an end.
